Getting Started

• Download Visual MODFLOW Flex 12.0 (64-Bit)

Once you have downloaded the installation file, run the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Installation notes:

• • Before installing, ensure you are logged in as the local administrator.
  • If upgrading from an older version, please uninstall first before installing the current version.

When upgrading to the latest version, your previous license file will not work. Simply fill out the fields under the Request License section, click the Submit button and the application will automatically download a new license file for you over the internet.

Visual MODFLOW Flex requires the following minimum hardware configuration.

• Supported Operating Systems:
  • Windows 11 (Pro, Enterprise, or Ultimate)
  • NOTE: Administrative rights are required to install the software
• Processor:  x64
• Hard Disk: 20 GB free space, plus extra space for your models
• RAM: 16 GB or more recommended*
• Networking Hardware: Network Card (required for softkey licensing)

* If you intend to work with larger models, it is recommended that you use 64-bit version of Visual MODFLOW Flex and increase your RAM above the minimum requirements. The following table of model size (number of cells vs. stress periods) shows recommendations for memory size based on a simple benchmark model using a dedicated computer (i.e. no other active applications). Results will vary depending on several factors.

Software Requirements

The Visual MODFLOW Flex installation package requires the following software configuration:

• Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 (provided with installation)
• Python 3.12 environment, along with JupyterLab desktop application and Conda package manager (provided with installation)
• Microsoft Office 2000 (or later) or Microsoft Access Database Engine
• NOTE: Microsoft Office 64-bit version is currently no supported for MDB import

Note: Administrative rights may be required to make changes to these settings. Please contact your IT department for assistance if you do not have administrative privileges over the machine where Visual MODFLOW Flex will be used. Read more about the Regional Setting Requirements.

Hydro GeoAnalyst QuickChecker

The Quick Checker is now installed automatically with HGA. If however you wish to run it on a computer that does not have HGA installed, you can do so by using the stand alone installation.

Hardware Requirements

• Supported Operating Systems:
  • Windows 11 Pro or Enterprise
  • NOTE: Administrative rights are required to install the software
• Processor: x64
• Hard Disk: 2 GB free space, plus extra space for projects
• RAM: 16GB or more recommended
• Networking Hardware: Network Card (required for licensing and connecting to remote SQL Server databases)

Software Requirements

• Microsoft .NET Framework v.4.7 or higher*
• Microsoft Visual Studio C++ 2005 Redistributable*
• Microsoft Office matching the bit-level edition of HGA (required for certain modules/features)

* Note: included as part of installation

SQL Server Requirements

Hydro GeoAnalyst works with SQL Server databases.  HGA databases can be stored on SQL Server 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, or 2022 instances. Full SQL Server Editions as well as Express or Local DB are supported.

An instance of SQL Server 2022 Local DB included and can be optionally installed from within HGA.

Additional Requirements

The following steps must also be taken to install the 32-bit Edition of Hydro GeoAnalyst:

• HGA must be installed using Administrative rights and Windows 7 Compatibility Mode. Once installed, HGA will run normally without the need for either.
• The .NET 2.0/3.5 framework must be enabled in Windows 10/11 settings.

For the Mobile EDD features, we recommend the following:

• Apple or Android device
• Safari or Chrome mobile internet browser

When you purchase AquaChem, you will receive download and installation instructions. Please consult these for the latest instructions.

Once AquaChem has been installed on your computer, double-click the AquaChem shortcut icon ( ) on your computer’s desktop.

Alternatively, you can access the software via the start menu by clicking on Start/Programs/…

Please Note: If you are using dongle-based hardware licensing, please ensure that you install the dongle drivers before connecting the dongle to your computer. See Installing Standalone license – Dongles for details.

• MS-Word to publish customized templates
• PDF printer to publish directly to PDF documents

  • Local or network printer installed
  • Internet Connection
• In some cases, full local administrative rights may be required to install AquiferTest.
• We also recommend using English language and regional settings.
